Weeekly Wrap Up Nov. 11th-Nov 15th
Daniel Bangudu
Welcome Vandals to an exciting week of game-breaking news and updates of Unbelievable proportions. This week, prepare to witness the grand spectacle of our various Vandal teams kicking off their week of playoffs in their league! Starting with…
Monday, Nov. 11th
The first day of playoffs was full of surprises and triumphs. The Rainbow Six Siege JV team advanced unexpectedly after their opponents, Siena College, forfeited the match. Meanwhile, the Varsity team demonstrated their exceptional skills with a commanding 2-0 victory against The City College of New York.
Not all teams were as fortunate, as the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Varsity team faced a crushing 0-2 defeat against Concordia University. This marked the end of their playoff run, but their remarkable journey throughout the season earned them a well-deserved 5th place in the league.
Our Fortnite Varsity team received unfortunate news about not making it into the playoff series. Finishing 40th out of 111, the Fortnite Varsity team, though skilled, was unable to earn enough points to advance further in the league.
Tuesday, Nov. 12th
Tuesday brought a mix of emotions for the Valorant teams. While the Varsity team spent the day in intense training for their upcoming match on November 19, the JV 1 team faced the disappointment of not qualifying for playoffs. However, the JV 2 team delivered an incredible performance, narrowly defeating Bellarmine University 2-1 in a game that was decided by a clutch, last-minute strategy.
Elsewhere, the Street Fighter 6 Varsity team wrapped up their season with celebrations despite narrowly missing playoff qualification. MightyBang, one of their standout players, finished in 35th place, just three spots short of advancing. The team embraced the core spirit of esports by celebrating their achievements and having fun.
Wednesday, Nov. 13th
Midweek action kicked off with a strong showing from the Rocket League Varsity team, who secured an impressive 4-1 victory against Albion College. Unfortunately, the JV teams didn’t fare as well. The JV 1 team lost a hard-fought match 3-4 to Buena Vista University, while the JV 2 team had to forfeit their game against Brewton-Parker College.
For Counter-Strike 2, it was a quieter day. The Varsity team used the time for a productive practice session in preparation for next week’s matches, while the JV team did not compete, having missed the playoffs.
Thursday, Nov. 14th
Thursday proved to be a challenging day for the Overwatch teams. The Varsity team lost 1-3 in a grueling match against SUNY Polytechnic Institute, and the JV 1 team fell 0-3 to Trine University. However, there was a bright spot as the Valorant JV 2 team claimed another victory, defeating Bellarmine University 2-1 in a closely contested game.
Friday, Nov. 15th
The final day of the week brought tough challenges for the League of Legends teams. The Varsity team played an incredibly close match against Lethbridge Polytechnic but ultimately lost 1-2. The JV team had a more difficult time, losing 0-2 to The City College of New York in a decisive match.
Although the playoffs marked the end of the road for both League of Legends teams, they showcased their skills and teamwork throughout their games. More importantly, they created memorable moments together as a team, exemplifying the camaraderie that defines Vandal esports.
