Daniel Bangudu

Welcome fellow Vandals, gamers, and reading enthusiasts to the most recent installment in the Esports Weekly Wrap-Up series. This week has been nothing short of a spectacle as we reach the middle of the season and witness the rise of living legends.

Monday, Oct 14th

The week kicked off strong with the Smash Ultimate Varsity team securing a triumphant 2-1 victory against Columbia College. The team had a “smashingly” good time throughout the match.

Next, the Rainbow 6 Siege Junior Varsity (JV) team stepped up to the challenge, defeating Otterbein University 2-0 after an intense two-game series. Meanwhile, the Apex Legends Varsity team advanced in their league standings by earning 60 points, securing second place overall.

Tuesday, Oct 15th

Our Valorant Varsity team began the day on a high note with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the University at Albany. Both JV Valorant teams followed their varsity counterparts’ winning streak: JV Team 1 defeated Stockton University 2-0, and JV Team 2 took down Mountain Cat Esports with the same score.

In Street Fighter 6, Vinny emerged as the lone victor, narrowly defeating Wickelex 4-3. However, both Mightybang and Simply J fell short, losing their matches 0-4.

The Overwatch teams faced challenges on this day. The Varsity squad lost 0-3 to Bellarmine University, and JV Team 1 suffered a similar defeat to Memory and Henry University. JV Team 2, however, managed a rare 0-0 tie with Penn State Bernard University.

Finally, our Counter-Strike Varsity team ended the day on a positive note, winning 2-0 against the University of Washington.

Wednesday, Oct 16th

The middle of the week saw CS Varsity claim their second victory for this week, beating Molly University 2-0. Sadly, the same can’t be said for our JV team, losing 2-0 to Marist College.

The Rocket League Varsity team fought hard but fell short in a close 4-3 match against Mountain Aloysius College. RL JV followed suit, losing 2-4 to Randolph-Macon College. However, JV Team 2 saved the day with a thrilling 4-3 win over Heidelberg University.

Thursday, Oct 17th

Thursday brought a mix of results for our teams. In Hearthstone, our sole competitor, Inthesis, endured a tough 3-0 loss against Lunarm1st after a challenging match.

The Overwatch Varsity team claimed a victory by default, thanks to a forfeit from the University of Central Missouri. However, the JV squad wasn’t as lucky, falling 0-3 to Keiser University.

Friday, Oct 18th

The final day of the week saw some tough losses. In Tekken, Player Mightybang was defeated 3-0 by Goatwithtoast, and Player Sandman lost 3-1 to Elsorropintado.

Our League of Legends JV team won by default due to a forfeit from Sacred Heart University. The Varsity LoL team closed the week with a flawless 2-0 victory over Binghamton University, showcasing their dominance.
