Daniel Bangudu

Greetings and warm welcome readers to another exciting week full of thrilling news and intriguing developments. Beginning with . . .

Monday, Oct. 7th

The week started off strong with our Rainbow 6 Siege varsity team going up against the University at Buffalo. Despite the match being cut short, our Vandals claimed victory due to an unforeseen forfeit from their opponents. Continuing the streak of quick wins, the Smash Ultimate varsity team secured a decisive 2-0 victory against the Buena Vista Beavers, showcasing impressive technical skill. Players Foggy and Alpha stood out as the main highlights of the night. Foggy took a commanding 9-stock lead against his opponent in game 2, while Alpha dominated with a 6-stock lead in game 1.

Meanwhile, the Apex Legends varsity team continued climbing the ranks in their league, playing four matches. In game 1, they placed 5th with kills; in game 2, they came in 1st with 17 kills; game 3 saw them in 2nd place with 12 kills; and finally, in game 4, they finished 5th with 10 kills. Results for the Apex Legends varsity will be released soon.

Off-stream, our Teamfight Tactics 2 players, Hummus and Doom, continued defending their 7th and 5th positions, respectively, while our Overwatch, Fortnite, and CS2 teams remained hard at practice for their upcoming matches.

Tuesday, Oct 8th

Tuesday kicked off with an intense match between our varsity Valorant team and the University at Albany’s varsity team. Fortunately, we secured a 2-1 win. Next, our CS2 varsity team claimed victory against their opponent, Niner Esports, with a 2-0 sweep. Unfortunately, most of the Street Fighter 6 matches were either canceled or postponed, except for player Vinny, who won 4-1 against his opponent, Sebastriod. Sadly, our Overwatch varsity team experienced a swift loss to Bellarmine University, going down 0-3.

Wednesday, Oct 9th

The middle of the week proved to be rather challenging. The day began with a tough loss for our Varsity Rocket League team, narrowly falling 3-4 to Mount Aloysius College. The Rocket League JV Team 1 also faced defeat, losing 0-4 to Bridgewater College. However, JV Team 2 secured a close victory against Green Hill University with a 1-0 win. CS JV fought a close game but ultimately lost to the Rochester Institute of Technology JV team 2-1. Thankfully, our varsity CS team delivered a much-needed win, defeating Niner Esports varsity 2-0.

Thursday, Oct 10th

On Thursday, our Rocket League varsity team faced Idaho State University and unfortunately lost 3-1. Street Fighter 6’s MightyBang also suffered a defeat, losing 4-0 to ‘Goofy FGC’ from the University of South Florida. The Fortnite varsity team had a tough day as well, finishing near the bottom of the rankings in their match. However, our sole Hearthstone player, Inthesis, brought some good news by defeating his opponent ‘Sweettea1127’ with a 3-1 score.

Friday, Oct 11th

The last day of the week took a surprising yet exciting turn as the Esports Lab hosted our third ever Joe’s Inferno with special guest stars. Outside of Joe’s Inferno, League of Legends teams had mixed results with their games. Varsity earned a forfeit win, while the JV team lost 1-2. Tekken players Sandman and Mightybang also claimed victory from their opponents 4-0.

Our Esports Program is thankful to all of our wonderful fans and players in and out of the lab and the channel. Please join us in person at the Esports Lab, located in the basement of the Pitman Center, or watch on Twitch at UIdahoEsports.
