Weekly Wrap Up Sept. 30th – Oct. 4th
Daniel Bangudu
Welcome fellow Vandals and gaming enthusiasts to another exciting week in the Vandal Esports Program! With the end of this week, we have quite a lot of news to cover. Starting with . . .
Monday, Sept 30
The start of the week began with Rainbow 6 Siege coming in with an outstanding victory against Saint Mary’s University, casually beating the competition with a 2-0 lead. Teamfight Tactics carried on the streaks of wins by having clever tactician (Doomofnewbie) move up ranks to the 7th position and Hummus securing their 5th position in ranks. Unfortunately, Smash took a tragic loss to Fisher University, suffering a brutal defeat of an initial 2-12 and then a 5-12 loss in the 2nd half. The Apex Legends team had yet another exciting practice session outside the fierce competition.
Tuesday, Oct 1
Kicking off Tuesday with easy wins for all 3 Valorant teams. The Varsity team beat Northwestern University 2-0, scoring 13-4 in game one and 13-8 in game two. Fortunately, both JV teams carried the momentum from their Varsity counterparts and won against their opponents 2-0 as well. JV Team One goes up against Roger Williams University, and JV Team Two competes against Suny Canton University.
Outside of Valorant, Street Fighter 6 had player Simply J lose a game 4-0, and player Vinny automatically wins by default to his opponent forfeiting. Player MightyBang wins his game 4-0 and becomes the current #1 ranked player in the SF 6 league! Of course, it wouldn’t be a Tuesday without having both Apex and Overwatch practice together.
Wednesday, Oct 2
Wednesday started strong with Rocket League Varsity claiming victory against their opponents, the Cadwell University Cougars in the beginning of a double header. Our Varsity team was able to win 4-1. The second game was an hard-fought loss of 3-1 against Northern Arizona University. JV 1, right behind the heels of the Varsity, also won out against their opponents, the Suny Polytechnic Institute Wildcats, 4-3. Sadly, JV 2 was tragically defeated by their opponents, Kean University Esports, 0-4. Other games that took place were Counter-Strike 2, with our Junior Varsity team beating Northeastern University 2-0.
Thursday, Oct 3
Being the first game of the season in our league, Hearthstone was an excellent time for our solo player, Intethesis, to shine. Although he might have lost 0-3 against his opponent, Oznone neutral of Saint Francis Univeristy, Intethesis still put up a great showing of skill nonetheless. The Varsity Overwatch team sadly carried on the streak of failure and lost their game to the Rio Grande Ravens 2-4. Thankfully, both of our Fortnite teams brought some much-needed good news: coming 8th place in ranks in their series and even 2nd place in one of their games.
Friday, Oct 4
Finishing off the week, Our League of Legends Varsity and Junior Varsity teams were defeated by their opponents, the University of Delaware. JV competed against the Otter LoL Esports team, winning their series 2-0 with an impressive show of communication and maneuvering. Our Tekken 8 team, on the other hand, suffered an unfortunate loss. Sandman sadly lost to his opponent, Juroh of the University of Louisiana, 3-1, and Mightybang to his opponent, Bigpaul, 4-0.
Other teams came into the lab to polish their skills for the continued season, but the most notable of the bunch was the JV CS2 team to practice for their upcoming game on Sunday.
Our Esports Program is thankful to our wonderful fans and players in and out of the lab and the channel. Please join us in person at the Esports Lab, located in the basement of the Pitman Center, or watch on Twitch at UIdahoEsports.
