Esports Weekly Wrap-Up Sept 23rd – Sept 27th
Amelia Green
Welcome to another fierce week in the Vandals Esports Program! There is much to cover as we go through the week.
Monday, Sept 23rd
In a delightful start to the week, the Vandal Varsity Rainbow 6 team combats against the Coast Guard Academy. It was a resounding win for the Vandals in a 2-0 series, with the second game concluding at 7-0. There are high hopes for this season’s Vandal Varsity squad.
Off-stream, there were 4 Teamfight Tactics matches. “Hummus” received 3rd and 5th place in her games, while “Doom” achieved 5th and 7th place. Our program is excited to see the progression of our TFT players. The other match was another 2-0 win for Vandals from the JV Rainbow 6 team against Catawba College!
Tuesday, Sept 24th
Our Valorant Varsity team found a tough opponent in UTICA as we went into a third map when competing with them. Ultimately, the Vandals won 2-1 on Haven and Ascent. We saw impressive situational awareness from Dohyun, allowing him to push through and act as the team’s lurker, preventing flanks and executing a few himself.
Wednesday, Sept 25th
Wednesday was rather eventful with a strong storm startling us as we went through the Counter Strike match against Akron University. It was an impressive 2-0 win that included scores of 13-2 and 13-1. A job well done by our Varsity Counter-Strike team as they make their way through a fairly tight bracket of 27 teams in Playfly.
Thursday, Sept 26th
Rocket League was rescheduled to the 26th, but this didn’t deter the Vandals in competition. Against Northern Colorado University, the Vandal Varsity squad won 3-0. Alongside Rocket League, both Varsity and JV Overwatch teams had their first official matches of the season, leading to a 3-0 win against Waldorf University for Varsity. JV follows this with another 3-0 win against Shawnee State University.
This was a wonderfully successful night for the Vandals.
Friday, Sept 27th
The week concludes with a heartbreaking defeat in the League of Legends series for both the Varsity and JV teams. Varsity competed against Roger-Williams University, resulting in a score of 1-2, while JV went 1-2 against Bridgewater State University. With all three games fought in both series, the final 40-minute matches for both teams resulted in devastating losses.
