Playoff Review Apr 8th – 12th

Amelia Green Apr 12th, 2024

Heading into this next week of tournaments, many of our teams have been eliminated, but we also have teams that have furthered into the semi-finals or even the finals!

Apex Legends

In the final lobby, our Vandals took third place and finished third overall for the first season of our Apex team! George Fox University took first for the lobby, having done well throughout the regular season and the tournament. This concludes the Apex Legends season until fall, but congratulations to our Vandals!

Counter-Strike 2

The CS2 ECAC match took place against the University of Southern Maine. We took a 2-1 win with the first round being 13-5, then 11-13, and finishing off as 13-7. This brings our CS2 team into the Semifinals against St. Clair College. The other Semifinalists competing on April 15th are Northeastern University and Fisher West College. There is a chance that we will lose in this coming round, but we have taken a game from them before.

Rainbow Six: Seige

Both Vandal Varsity and JV had a match this week, but only one was able to make it through to the next round. A sad loss for our JV team occurred against Sitting Bull College, 1-2. This was against the current top-ranked team in the NACE league, and taking a game off of them is something to be proud of! The Varsity team matched against the University of Alaska Fairbanks, but they forfeited, pushing us into the Division Finals against Keiser University. They hold 2nd place, but as we have won against them before, there is support for the Vandals taking this final match.

Rocket League

Another win for our Rocket League team against the University of Guam. This was a struggling win, but by pulling together, maintaining good communication, and using smooth rotations, we got a 4-2 win. This means that our Varsity team will compete in the NACE Finals against Redlands University! As we have prevailed against them during the regular season, there is support for the Vandals to take the Championship.

Teamfight Tactics

With Taran “Doom” Haug’s final lobby of the season, he achieved fifth place. This placed him as 8th place in the final tournament rankings. Congratulations!

Valorant

There were quite a few match-ups ready for Valorant as they were still in both league tournaments. Valorant JV had a NACE match against the Colorado School of Mines to kick it off. This, unfortunately, ended as a 0-2 loss, finishing off the JV team’s season. Valorant Varsity’s NACE match was a 2-1 win against Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. Our Vandals shall move on to the Finals against George Fox University next week. The final Valorant match of the week was Varsity’s ECAC Quarterfinals match against West Virginia University. This, unfortunately, ended as a 2-1 loss, ultimately ending the Vandal Valorant season in ECAC.
