Howdy-do Joe Vandals!! We are BACK with our final week before Spring Break. We’ve been needing it.

To kick off Monday night, Smash had a ECAC match against Fisher West, the at-the-time 1st place Smash team with a 5-0 record. A very intense match for our Vandals, no doubt about it! The series ended as 0-2. Both rounds concluded in Fisher West’s favor, 5-9. R6 had a Varsity and JV match, but Varsity’s opponent had to forfeit due to their Spring Break. JV went against Greenville University, and they got a 2-0 win! The first round ended as a 7-2 win, while the second was a 7-3. Following R6 was two EAFC games. Thejalili was against SUNY Cobleskill and lost 0-2. The first round was a 1-2 win for SUNY and was followed by a 2-4 win. Bobo forfeited a loss to Stockton University, ending the night. Rocket League against Redlands with a 3-2 victory, finishing out the night.

Apex began our program’s Tuesday evening with a 2 of 3 round win in this week’s lobby! This was a great success for the team, boosting into fourth place. Following the Apex lobbies, there was an unfortunate Overwatch Varsity loss against Redlands at 0-3 and a forfeit loss from our JV team against Neumont. Afterwards, we had Streetfighter competing in ECAC. Droe went up against Northwood University and lost 1-3; Jack won via forfeit against Moravian College. The final games of the night were Val Varsity versus Long Island University and had a close call in a 2-1 win. A cinched victory after a near reverse sweep in the second half of the first game gave the team a tough time. However, our Vandals did conclude that last game as 13-7. The final match of the night was Valorant JV against SUNY Canton. This was a 2-0 game. The first map was Bind and ended 13-7; the second game was placed in Ascent, and it was a 13-4 match.

Wednesday brought mixed results for our Overwatch and Valorant teams. Overwatch Varsity forfeited a loss to Uni of Pittsburgh, while the JV team got a forfeit loss from Sienna College. Spring Break is coming up, so we were a few players down. Val JV went up against the George Fox Uni, someone we’ve had as an opponent several times this season in the NACE league. We took that win hard, 2-0. GFU was only able to get 8 points on us throughout the course of the matches. Tough stuff. Varsity took the win opposing Neumont 2-0, with 13-6 and 13-10 round results. Val JV also completed an ECAC match against John Brown Uni, getting their second win of the night, 2-1. Shout out to our Val teams, they’ve been animals this season, ranking very high in the standings against other teams.

Vandal Teamfight Tactic’s Hood and Doom fought Thursday night in the ECAC league. Doom once again came out in high standings, and is currently at 77 points, holding second place in team rankings. Hood also fought and took some points for Idaho. Mortal Kombat player Bernt stepped up for their UIdaho fight, and won all three fights, which was a big uplift from last week. Android was on a BYE, we’ll see more from them after break. Rainbow 6 Varsity and JV got wins against Keiser Uni Pembroke Pines and Glenville St. Uni, respectively. Smash took a reluctant loss against Texas A&M International, 2-0, with 12-11 results both rounds.

Friday was eventful, with another WAZZU LAN event! More on that in a moment. Omega Strikers had a BYE Friday, and League Var. had a forfeit W from Randolph-Macon College. JV League battled SUNY Plattsburgh, resulting in a loss. Counter Strike JV and Varsity finished out the week. Varsity CS ran their match against Cal Poly CS, which was a 2-1 win!

The LAN event was very eventful, and both teams had a blast hanging in the lab. We will be posting a short video about the night on our socials, so be sure to keep an eye out. We had a tight first match, losing 9-13. The second match was neck-and-neck, and the Vandals got away with a 13-11 win. The third match started out a little rocky, and despite 5 points for the team, we couldn’t catch up, losing to the Cougs. Despite this, the teams chatted and had some great conversations post-match. We look forward to hosting them again, go Cougs!

Vandal Esports had some great moves this week from our strongest teams and are preparing to go hard in playoffs. Stay tuned for that, as we face off against opponents old and new.
