Esports Weekly Wrap-Up: Jan 15th – 19th
Amelia Green Jan 17th, 2024
Hello, Vandal fans! We have now finished the second week of tryouts for the Esports Program! We have an impressive line-up of games to share with you. In the end, we have two Overwatch teams, two teams for Rainbow Six (R6), one Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) team, two Valorant teams, two FC teams, two Chess.com teams, one League of Legends (LoL) team, and one team for Omega Strikers There are also three teams for Rocket League, one team for Apex Legends (Apex), two teams for Street Fighter 6, two teams for Mortal Kombat I (Mortal Kombat), and two for Super Smash Bros Ultimate (Smash Bros or SSBU). While this is an extensive list, we will share detailed news for these games each week!
For Rocket League, the final team line-ups are very impressive! The varsity team has some familiar faces from last season: Weedles, Boofless, Dub the Boss, and Zachman. However, there are some new faces as well! DD and Christian have now joined our Vandals. Weedles and DD act as co-captains as well! Since there are now two JV teams, we have many new faces. In JV 1, we have Toaster, Gabriel, crtrdnnll, and topdog. Toaster leads as the team captain. Our third team, JV 2, is led by LuckyLuke as captain, Connor – 5053, droffig, and Kaleb. The players’ gamer tags shall be how they are referred to throughout the rest of the season. We are expecting an exhilarating season for the upcoming leagues!
Our Apex team is headed by the captain, Jackadub. It is composed of Forza, Mojohopper, and scrum_doglin. There isn’t much more information on the current line-up, but we have high hopes for this team in its first season here at Vandal Esports! Mortal Kombat has two members: Bernt and androidfan. There is much excitement for this game and Street Fighter! As these are more individual games, each member is considered their own team. Street Fighter currently has Jack-of-No-Trades and Droe competing.
Headed by Hummus and TigerLui, LoL is filled with familiar faces even across other games! Chiamii, Jaggerz, JediNinja, and Irae have returned from last season as ShinyShoes – also in SSBU – joins with HoodLive! With familiar faces comes familiar gameplay, and we here at Vandal Esports hope this edge in cohesion will boost us even further through the rankings from last season’s placement.
Following LoL, Valorant has also completed their tryouts and even begun scrimming! SomeCheese, still acting captain and IGL, welcomes new and old teammates to the program! Some tags from last season include Kiwii and AbandonScorpion on Varsity. The rest of the Varsity team comprises Loftech, MajorRazor, and sknles! We even have a JV team for this upcoming season! With the staff’s own ijme leading as captain, HoodLive, Loftech, Nolan775, and stupidzombie are in exceptional hands. With Overwatch getting more engagement from our program, we have much to expect! SuperSnowmanGuy acting as the head coach and captain of the Varsity team: Draul, Idoeym, Olson, Razzberry, TheLegion_bb. The JV team has co-captains HypoDoc and Olson, leading BALisme, Bearclaw, Clownface12, Mysticism, and WidowFang for the season!
SSBU, one of our very successful teams of last season, has Ppizza as coach again. The Varsity team has asdagigafo (asda) as captain, Candy, Diap, Shinyshoes, Drakenforge42, Mysterion, Hunter, and ThoughtBubble. Further news will be posted as we get into the rest of the season!
