Valorant Season Wrap-Up

Amelia Green Dec 18th, 2023

Valorant is one of our best teams in the program, and it is all due to the capability of our players. The team is led by the in-game leader (IGL) SomeCheese and comprises Kiwii, Blud, AbandonScorpion, Alligrator, and Ferix. It is unfortunate that Alligrator left the team later in the season, but Ferix was able to take the position and meld with the team wonderfully! Through the many games, we got to see the various playstyles and preferences of our Vandals!

SomeCheese has a style that heavily favors duelists. He regularly plays agents like Phoenix, Iso, Raze, and even Reyna on occasion. He’s diverse and practical in his playstyle; he leads the team through each play and changes as necessary. He isn’t shy about strategizing and adapting plans, which is a boon for the team as a whole! Kiwii is a strong support player that can play both initiator and sentinel. She favors Breach and Killjoy as agents, but she has spread beyond them before. She is a solid choice for planting and utilizes her characters very well. While her K/D/A stats aren’t heavy in the K’s, that is to her benefit. She emphasizes as an assist more than anything else. Blud is another of our more aggressive players that makes initial contact, great for picks, and often has a comparable K/D/A to SomeCheese and AbandonScorpion. He often primarily has controllers as his chosen agents: Omen and Viper. He fully utilizes his smokes and screens in any match and supports aggressive pushes forward. He quickly backs plays made by SomeCheese, but he also quickly responds to changes needed in the heat of a round. AbandonScorpion is an outstanding player as well. He often plays agents like Skye and Sova. He is our primary initiator on any given map and executes his role exceptionally well! Before Alligrator left, he was a very aggressive player like SomeCheese; he usually played sentinels like Sage or duelists like Pheonix. We dearly missed him on the team, but we were able to fill the role with Ferix! Ferix, as mentioned previously, is a superb addition to the team. He regularly played Cypher – a sentinel – and Sova – an initiator. He takes up a role much like Kiwi, supporting effectively and efficiently, but he can also be aggressive like AbandonScorpion when needed.

So many amazing games could be highlighted, but the best match would be the second time we went against the University of Alaska Fairbanks in the NACE Tournament. We won the game 2-1 after many tense moments and highly combative rounds. More often than not, the points went back and forth between winning and losing streaks! In this match-up, unfortunately, we couldn’t upload the recording onto our channel. However, it was even more intense than our first go against UAF!

We are excited to be participating in next season’s NACE and ECAC Leagues! Please join us on our Twitch – UIdahoEsports – or stop by the basement of the Pitman Center when we open back up!
