The Esports Weekly Wrap-Up: Nov 6th – Nov 10th

Amelia Green, Summer Muster Nov 8th, 2023

Hello, Vandal Fans! We are going into our seventh week of season, and we start off with three Rocket League games! We followed with Overwatch 2 and League of Legends Playoffs on Tuesday, Valorant on Wednesday, Smash Ult and Counter Strike 2 on Thursday, and ending the week with a Counter Strike 2 match on Friday! Such an important, busy week for our Vandals. We mostly met success throughout the rigorous matches, bolstering the teams through league rankings!

Monday’s Rocket League games went fairly well through the night. Our first Varsity match was against George Fox University and ended splendidly for our Vandals! A series score of 3-0 completes one of the final matches before play-offs. The games were fairly straight forward with no overtime: 2-1, 3-1, and 2-1 being the final scores of each game. Our JV match against Redlands did not bring such victory, but our Vandals fought hard to make our opponents work. The first game was 0-4 for Redlands, a crushing defeat, but not the last one. The following games ended roughly for our Vandals, but Varsity’s second game redeemed them against New Mexico State University! The final series score was 3-1 with the games resulting in scores of 2-0, 3-2, 0-2, and 2-1. Overall, our Vandals had a successful Monday match-up!

Tuesday shall be mentioned in Highlights.

Our Wednesday match Valorant against the Colorado School of Mines went extremely well for our Vandals. As we won the first game 13-2, and we were feeling confident with our performance. However, the Vandals never got careless. The second game was a little closer with a final score of 13-5, ultimately leaving the Vandals with the victory!

Thursday wasn’t as successful as our typical Smash matches. It was truly a clash of the titans as both our Vandals and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology were undefeated before this final match-up. We took our first loss at 2-0 and 3-0. Both were very close battles, but we were not able to claim first in our league. However, we will still be going into play-offs! As a final note, the Friday Counter Strike 2 game was forfeited in our favor. Though Cal Poly Pomona officially forfeited, we were still able to stream some scrims with them on our Twitch.

HIGHLIGHTS

Tuesday had its ups and downs between League of Legends and Overwatch 2. Overwatch 2 had an unfortunate loss, but LoL achieved major success! Our League match was against Southern Miss, in which we handily won against them! The Vandals achieved success in a 2-0 score, the first of the games complete in less than a half-hour, but the second being a much longer, struggle-ridden victory. The performance from Southern Miss is probably the strongest competition we have had. This is the first match-up in the play-offs, and our Vandals made a wonderful showing!
