The Esports Weekly Wrap-Up: Oct 16-Oct 21
Summer Muster October 20th, 2023
Here we are at week four! We will be including some highlights for some of the games that competed this week, there was some good playing across the board.
Rocket League’s Varsity team delivered a 3-0 win against the Neumont Llamas. JV squared up against the NMSU Red Guard, and while they originally had a 0-3 loss, due to New Mexico’s failure to check in with the league prior to the matches, the Vandals took an automatic win by forfeit. Overwatch battled the Redlands team and wasn’t able to secure a win, but had significant advancements in their gameplay. League took a 2-0 win from San Juan, giving them their third win in a row. Shout out to the LoL team! The Valorant team fought hard on Wednesday, taking a 1-2 loss to George Fox University. More on that in a moment. Thursday’s Smash team took the W against Redlands 2-0 and the LoL team beat Chapman University. CS2 had a wild night battling the Colorado State Rams. We fought hard but took an L 0-2. Next Friday Cali State Long Beach will be our opponents, and we hope to have better luck then. Saturday the 21st, a few Vandals are going down to BSU to compete in a virtual biking competition. It will be streamed on Boise State’s twitch @BoiseState. Be sure to check that out!
TEAM HIGHLIGHTS:
Overwatch may have missed the mark for a win, but as stated previously, they turned up the heat this week. Their first match in the season, they sat at 1% completion, but this week we reached 99% on two points the first map, nearly tipping the scale. The second map we went into OT, forcing Redlands to fight tooth and nail for the win. The third map, we were able took sites 1 and 3 on Flashpoint. Counter Strike had many hiccups before starting their match. It was postponed 30 minutes due to lab technical difficulties (thanks CSU for your flexibility), and ultimately, the team decided to split up and play from their respective residences. The first game scored 10-13 on Overpass. That is a common Vandal map pick, but the Rams were up for the challenge. The final game resulted in a 6-13 loss on Vertigo, a CSU pick. The Vandals started on T side, and due to the heavily CT leaning map layout, we were at a disadvantage. The map creates high angles that the CT side can utilize to shut down oncoming Terrorists. Prior to the swap at half, the standings were 2-10. Jumping into the second half, the Vandals immediately won the first round on CT and could feel the advantage. They got 4 more points, but the Rams got 3 points to cap off a win for them. It was a tough night, but it was great we were able to make the games. Go Rams!
and GOOOO Vandals! Don’t forget to check us out on Twitch @UIdahoEsports, we stream all week. Thanks for reading, love you guys! 🙂
See you next week Joes!
